The CAB series is considered one of Mario Bellini’s most important and commercially successful designs. Revolutionary at the time of its introduction, the chair was conceived as a self-supporting leather “skin” zippered over a rigid steel structure, combining saddle-making techniques with modern industrial production. Its architectural silhouette and seamless construction became an icon of late 20th century Italian design.
This example is executed in thick cognac saddle leather with exposed stitched edges and sculptural integrated armrests. The leather has developed a rich natural patina over time, giving the piece warmth and character impossible to replicate in newer production examples.
The chair remains in original vintage condition with visible wear and cracking to the leather on the armrests, consistent with age and use, as shown in the photographs. Structurally sound and stable. Original Cassina label preserved underneath.
An authentic and highly collectible example of Bellini’s celebrated design, equally suitable for contemporary, minimalist or eclectic interiors.
