An exceptional example of Bauhaus storage furniture, the Model B 101 wardrobe was designed by Hermann John Hagemann and manufactured by Thonet in the early 1930s. Conceived as a rational, hygienic, and efficient storage solution, the piece reflects the Bauhaus ambition to merge architecture, furniture, and everyday life into a coherent modern system.
The wardrobe features a chromed tubular steel frame combined with lacquered wooden panels in a striking original blue finish. The construction is elevated on a steel base, giving the piece a light, architectural presence despite its generous storage volume. Inside, the cabinet offers a thoughtfully organised interior with shelving, hanging rail, and compartmental divisions—pure functionalism executed with precision.
This example is in great original condition, carefully cleaned and polished. The lacquer retains a strong, even tone with only minimal age-appropriate wear. The chrome-plated steel shows excellent preservation, and the wardrobe is complete with its original Thonet label and original working key, a rare and highly desirable detail for collectors.
