A distinctive “Stuns” lounge armchair, designed by Jan Dranger and Johan Huldt in 1972 for Innovator, Sweden. With its bright yellow tubular steel frame, generously padded cushions and practical construction, the chair captures the experimental spirit of Scandinavian design in the 1970s.
Founded in 1968, Innovator challenged conventional Swedish furniture design by introducing affordable, functional furniture with an industrial aesthetic and vibrant colours. The Stuns series, produced by Möbelmontage in Enköping, became one of the company's commercial successes.
Designed for home assembly, the chair was originally supplied flat-packed and could be assembled using a single Allen key. Its construction combines a painted tubular steel frame with a suspended canvas seat and backrest supporting soft, polyether-filled cushions. Four small castors provide mobility, while the open armrests and reclining backrest create a comfortable, informal seating position.
The chair is in good vintage condition, structurally sound, with minor signs of age and wear to the painted steel frame.
It comes with new, original removable and washable fabric covers in a yellow and white striped pattern, still preserved in their packaging. The photographs show the chair with its existing yellow upholstery.
A matching side table/trolley from the same Stuns series is also available separately, offering an opportunity to create a coordinated 1970s Swedish interior.
