“Strip” Dining table by Gijs Bakker for Castelijn, 1970s

Radical Refinement

“Strip” Dining Table by Gijs Bakker for Castelijn, 1970s

Sculptural Dutch design. Postmodern purity.

Wood as volume, vision, and voice.

Designed by Gijs Bakker in the early 1970s for Dutch manufacturer Castelijn, the “Strip” dining table is an iconic expression of radical minimalism and postmodern sculptural form. The table is made entirely of dark-stained, laminated slats of wood and echoes the sculptural logic of Strip chairs, with its signature leg cut-outs and slab-like proportions anchoring the composition.

The table is in good vintage condition, with some visible traces of wear including surface scratches, slight fading, and tonal variation in the wood — all consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and fully functional, it retains its bold visual presence and remains a collectible example of Bakker’s early work.

Perfect for sculptural modernist interiors, creative dining areas, or as a standout postmodern collectible in a design-conscious environment.

Set of four matching chairs to accompany the table available.
