Set of six rare Thonet B 946 chairs by Josef Frank, 1920s

A set of six stickback chairs, produced by Thonet-Mundus in Vienna around 1925, made from dark stained beechwood. The front legs are lathe-turned, and each chair features a moulded seat for added comfort and durability. These chairs bear the original Thonet factory brand, embossed into the wood, as well as the iconic Thonet paper label, attesting to their authenticity and origin.

This particular model was notably used by the renowned architect Adolf Loos, one of the pioneers of modern architecture. Loos selected this design for the kitchen of the famous Villa Müller in Prague, a project that epitomizes his minimalist approach to design. Compare: "Innenräume von Loos, ein Kinderzimmer aus der Villa Müller in Prag", in: B. Rukschcio, R. Schachel, Adolf Loos, p. 615, fig. 776 - Also Josef Frank used the chair in the library of his apartment, see the photograph of 1932 reproduced in: Neues Wohnen, Österreichisches Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna 1980, p. 36, fig. 11
