An exquisite and exceptionally rare pair of Viennese modernist chairs designed by Gustav Siegel for Thonet, circa 1926–1927. For decades attributed to Otto Prutscher, the true authorship was recently confirmed through an original catalogue card discovered in the Thonet archives.
Crafted from solid beech stained in deep mahogany, the chairs embody the elegant geometry and refined construction characteristic of Siegel’s late Secessionist and early functionalist period. The sculpted backrests, linear framework, and slightly splayed legs reflect the emerging modernist aesthetic of interwar Central Europe.
Professionally restored by a specialist studio, both chairs retain their original Thonet trademarks. An investment-grade collector’s pair—ideal for curated interiors, design collections, or historical settings.
