Modernist Thonet A 745 F Bentwood Armchair, 1930s

Streamlined Modernism

Restored Timeless Elegance in Bentwood

Tatra A 745 F Bentwood Armchair, 1930s

A striking manifestation of modernist innovation, this bentwood armchair, originally designed by Thonet in the 1930s for the Baťa shoemaking company in Zlín, is a striking example of Czechoslovak design ambition in the interwar period. Catalogued as model A 745 F, this chair never went into mass production by Thonet for reasons unknown. However, it was later manufactured under license by Tatra Möbel AG, preserving its elegant form and industrial clarity.

Constructed entirely from bent beechwood, the chair's silhouette is marked by continuous, rounded geometry and disciplined proportions. Its seat and backrest are formed from sculpted plywood panels, offering both support and subtle flex. The frame has been fully restored, with surfaces professionally refinished and structural integrity secured.

Originally intended for progressive interior schemes in corporate and public spaces, the A 745 F armchair embodies the refined simplicity of early 20th-century functionalism—where rational construction and visual lightness go hand in hand.

A stylish piece for design lovers, collectors, or anyone seeking a unique functionalist chair with rich provenance.
