An authentic Bauhaus tubular steel daybed designed by Bruno Weil in the early 1930s and produced by Thonet during the formative years of modernist furniture manufacturing. This rare model embodies the radical functional clarity and structural honesty that defined the interwar avant-garde.
The daybed features a chromed tubular steel frame with continuous bent steel construction, forming both structure and integrated side rails. The generously proportioned upholstered surface rests lightly within the steel frame, visually suspended and architecturally resolved. The restrained geometry is balanced by the warmth of the original striped textile upholstery, preserved from the period.
The design reflects the Bauhaus pursuit of industrial precision, reduced form, and multifunctional living — equally suited as a seating piece or a resting surface. Its low, elongated silhouette and exposed tubular structure place it among the most elegant expressions of early modernist daybed design.
This example remains in original, unrestored condition, retaining its authentic upholstery and chrome surfaces with light, honest wear consistent with age. A rare opportunity to acquire an unaltered Bauhaus-period piece with museum-level presence.
