Designed by Gijs Bakker in the early 1970s for Dutch manufacturer Castelijn, the “Strip” dining chairs are an iconic expression of radical minimalism and postmodern sculptural form. Made entirely of dark-stained, laminated slats of wood — a construction technique that both names and defines the collection.
The chairs feature a continuous ribbon-like silhouette with curved backs and legs, cut and bent from stacked wooden strips, offering a surprisingly ergonomic and visually unified profile.
The chairs are in good vintage condition, with some visible traces of wear including surface scratches, slight fading, and tonal variation in the wood — all consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and fully functional, it retains its bold visual presence and remains a collectible example of Bakker’s early work.
Perfect for sculptural modernist interiors, creative dining areas, or as a standout postmodern collectible in a design-conscious environment.
