Rare modernist bentwood lounge chair, 1940s

A unique and elegantly sculptural lounge chair with a matching footstool, produced by Krásná Jizba in former Czechoslovakia during the late 1940s or early 1950s. Likely designed by architect Jan Vaněk or Zdeněk Plesník, this piece showcases exceptional craftsmanship with a gracefully arching bentwood frame. The arm-to-leg structure is formed from a single, beautifully curved 3 1/3" lacquered beechwood element. The frame, made of beech wood and plywood, has been expertly polished in its original condition, while the canvas webbing was replaced in the past with a durable cotton-nylon blend. A timeless example of Czech modernist design.

Dimensions: height 100 cm, width 70 cm, depth 105 cm.
